WASHINGTON — Progressive Coalition for American Jobs Advisory Board members Governor Christine Gregoire, Ambassador Ron Kirk, and Governor Deval Patrick issued the following statement today after the Office of the United States Trade Representative released the full and final text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership:
"Today, the Office of the United States Trade Representative released the final text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an agreement that would strengthen our economy, create higher standards for workers and the environment, and ensure that American values shape the rules for our businesses and workers to compete around the world. Thanks to Trade Promotion Authority, Congress and the American people have an opportunity to study the full and complete text of the deal for at least 90 days, engage in a robust debate on its specific details, and learn exactly how the TPP will help level the playing field for American workers.
"We urge Congress and the American people to closely review this tough, new deal and its provisions that would eliminate 18,000 foreign taxes on Made-In-America goods, open access to fast-growing markets, and establish progressive priorities like fair labor standards and environmental conservation. Our experience teaches that creating opportunity in America for Americans requires opening up to trade around the world. TPP helps us do just that."
